Axel MuntheÕs autobiography offers insight into his professional life as a doctor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his life anecdotes ranging from the lighthearted to the deeply serious.

Titled after the ruined Italian chapel Munthe encountered and desired to renovate, these memoirs span a series of stories taking place over decades. Munthe does not discuss his personal life or family, instead opting to describe the various medical procedures and patients he encountered as a doctor working in a range of different countries. Although some of the authorÕs recollections are clearly fictional Ð including a posthumous chapter set at the gates at heaven Ð there are several chapters both eye-opening and sobering for their seriousness.

The constraints of the medicine of the time are revealed in the frank recollections of patients whose lives could not be saved, with Munthe instead opting to lessen their suffering as they struggled through the later, painful stages of illness.

Best I’ve found yet for facial psoriasis
Anyone who has facial psoriasis will tell you there are not a lot of products that you can put on your face without irritation or flareups. This soap is just what I needed. There are no irritating chemicals or perfumes in this soap. I have read other reviews that the soap does not last very long but there is a way to use it to make it last. First, I wet my face and then I wet my fingertips and rub my finger tips across the dry bar of soap and then lightly rub my face with my fingertips softening the plaques and then lightly wash with a soft cotton washcloth. It is not really moisturizing but not over drying either. I follow up with an organic vegetable-based glycerin oil to moisturize. This is the best product I have found yet.
