Blackmagic Design 3G-SDI Arduino Shield

The Blackmagic Design 3G-SDI Arduino Shield is a unique, open-source expansion board that allows developers and broadcast engineers to build custom camera control solutions. By mounting this shield onto an Arduino (like an Uno), you can embed camera control commands directly into a 3G-SDI "Program Return" feed to control Blackmagic cameras without needing a full ATEM switcher.

It is the ultimate tool for DIY broadcast automation, custom CCU (Camera Control Unit) builds, and specialized PTZ rigs.

Core Functionality

  • Command Embedding: The shield takes an incoming SDI signal (like a clean program feed), "injects" control data into the blanking space of the SDI stream, and outputs a modified signal.

  • Camera Compatibility: Operates with any Blackmagic camera that supports the SDI Control Protocol, including:

    • Blackmagic Studio Cameras (HD, 4K, 6K models).

    • URSA Mini / URSA Broadcast series.

    • Micro Studio Camera 4K.

  • Open Protocol: Uses the Blackmagic Video Device Embedded Control Protocol, allowing you to write your own "sketches" in the Arduino IDE to trigger specific camera actions based on physical inputs (knobs, buttons, or joysticks).

Supported Controls via SDI

Once programmed, the shield can remotely adjust almost every internal parameter of a compatible camera, including:

  • Lens Control: Focus, Iris, and Zoom (on electronic lenses).

  • Image Shading: Gain, White Balance, Shutter Speed, and Pedestal.

  • Color Correction: Full primary DaVinci Resolve color corrector (Lift, Gamma, Gain, Contrast, Hue, and Saturation).

  • Production Tools: Tally lights, Detail (sharpening), and triggering internal recording.

Hardware & Integration

  • I2C Interface: The shield communicates with the Arduino primarily over the I2C bus. This means it only uses a few pins, leaving the rest of the Arduino's I/O free for you to attach your own buttons, sliders, or OLED displays.

  • Powering: The shield includes a 12V DC input (locking connector) which can power both the shield and the attached Arduino board simultaneously.

  • SDI Connections: * SDI In: Accepts the return video feed from your switcher or another source.

    • SDI Out: Connects to the camera. The control commands are now "baked" into this signal.

  • Multi-Microcontroller Support: Because it uses I2C, you can technically use it with other microcontrollers like a Raspberry Pi or ESP32 with minimal modification.

Operational Insight

In 2026, the Arduino Shield is a favorite for automated PTZ control. By pairing the shield with a Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K and a motorized head, you can write a script that converts VISCA commands or joystick movements into SDI data. This allows you to control a robotic head and the camera's lens over a single thin SDI cable.

Pro Tip: If you want to control multiple cameras from one shield, simply run the SDI Output into an SDI Distribution Amplifier. Since each camera can be assigned a "Camera ID" (1–99), the shield can send commands to "Camera 4" specifically, and only that camera will respond, even if all cameras are receiving the same signal.

That ending 😫
Format: Kindle
I fell into a false sense of security and really thought this was gearing towards a happy ending. Then I realized there’s no work they don’t punish Andrew. I really liked Vale’s character. I don’t normally read books with pregnancy but going into this knowing she was pregnant made it more enjoyable for me. I loved Bishops devotion to her and her happiness. I also loved that Holt and Mercy couldn’t fight their attraction to her. I love scent matches so very much. I’m so curious to see how this duet will end up. And I need to pay more attention and notice that a book I’m starting is a duet to begin with lol

Format: Kindle
I just knew there was something about Cooper! I’m wondering if he’s about to be included but damn I’m glad he’s at least not a rapist and creepy guy, he just got called on assignment and had to go! This should be interesting! She’s gonna run and then what’s his face is gonna grab her. I’m worried! Wow that was a great book and cliffhanger! Loving this!

ABSOLUTELY A MUST for Omegaverse Girls!!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Jillian West and her books!!! I’m so happy I already bought book two and now I have to buy the others for the Assurance Security series!! Not gonna lie Val kind of annoyed me at the beginning but she grew on me!! Her men are chef’s kisses!!! Holt annoys me some but I can let it slide. I already bought part two so I’m going to be reading that in between work phone calls!!!! DON’T TELL MY BOSS 😂😂😂😂

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.
