Blackmagic Design Camera URSA EVF Tensioning Screws

The Blackmagic Design Camera URSA EVF Tensioning Screws are specialized internal and external adjustment components for the Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder. These screws control the mechanical resistance of the viewfinder's pivot and tilt points, allowing the operator to customize how easily the eyepiece moves or stays in a fixed position.

Function and Utility

In a professional environment, an EVF must be easy to adjust with one hand but rigid enough to stay in place once positioned.

  • Friction Control: These screws apply pressure to the internal friction pads or "clutches" within the viewfinder mount.

  • Tilt Stability: They prevent the "drooping" effect that can occur when the viewfinder is outfitted with a heavy eyecup or when the camera is subjected to heavy vibrations.

  • Customizable Feel: Operators can tighten them for a "locked-off" studio feel or loosen them for a "fluid" feel during handheld or documentary shooting.

Technical Specifications

  • Head Type: Typically feature a flat-head or small hex/Allen drive, depending on the specific manufacturing run.

  • Material: High-tensile steel to prevent stripping under the high torque required for friction-based locking.

  • Placement: These screws are generally located at the main hinge point where the EVF body connects to the sliding rail mount.

Adjustment Procedures

Adjusting these screws requires precision to avoid damaging the internal plastic or metal bushings.

  1. Identify the Pivot: Locate the screws on the side or underside of the mount.

  2. Small Increments: Turn the screw in 1/4-turn increments. Overtightening can crush the internal friction washers, while leaving them too loose can cause the EVF to flop over and potentially damage the internal SDI/Power cable.

  3. Balancing: If there are two screws (one on each side of the hinge), ensure you tighten them equally to maintain an even load across the bracket.

When to Replace or Service

You should look for these spare parts if you notice the following issues:

  • "Play" in the Mount: If the viewfinder wobbles even when the main thumbscrew is tight, the internal tensioning screws likely need adjustment or have become stripped.

  • Stripped Heads: Constant adjustment with the wrong tool size can strip the screw heads, making it impossible to secure the EVF.

  • Lost Tension: If the EVF fails to hold its position regardless of how much you tighten the screw, the screw may have reached its mechanical limit or the friction pads have worn down, requiring new hardware.

Operational Insight

The tensioning screws are different from the 1/4" Thumbscrew. While the thumbscrew is meant for quick-release and gross adjustments on the rail, the tensioning screws are "set and forget" components meant to calibrate the mechanical resistance of the viewfinder itself. For rental houses, it is common practice to apply a small amount of low-strength thread-locker (like blue Loctite) to these screws to prevent them from vibrating loose during transport.

Amazing!!!
Color: Turn Around, Size: Level 2
This is an amazing mental stimulation toy for my dog! And it’s a perfect one for dogs who are learning. He picked it up right away and loves it! I can’t wait to get the other ones they have. Seriously so amazing. My very active Aussie can spend 30 minutes doing this and not get bored.

Great for bored dogs
Color: Flip Board, Size: Level 2
Great dog puzzle! My pup loves this, he did chew the peg portion once he got them out so they can be put back in. They are tough for small dogs to get out so I think he plotted it out.

Mental stimulation for dogs and fun to watch!
Color: Turn Around, Size: Level 2, Color: Turn Around, Size: Level 2
Perfect mental stimulation for dogs like that like a challenge! My very smart dog figured it out in a few seconds so I use treats that are only a little smaller than the holes to make it more challenging. She doesn’t play with toys like my other dogs so I do make an effort to offer her other outlets to get energy out. I have another dog that finds it challenging, but enjoys it, so I use smaller treats for her to make it easier. I have another dog that has a low tolerance for challenges and walks away from it or tries to chew through it- so I think the level 2 rating is fair as every dog is different! My dogs are 12 lb for reference.

Great tool!
Color: Flip Board, Size: Level 2
Love this interactive toy! I purchased this for our 4 month old husky, looking for something to keep her entertained, and I was not let down! In the beginning, it took her a few good minutes to figure it out, and about a week later, she gets it done in about 2 minutes. If you've never had a husky, let me tell you, these dogs are very inquisitive! But due to her being involved with this, our older pit is now getting in on the fun! This is huge because our pit isn't amused by much! Overall, it's durable enough to withstand puppy chewing, and being carried around. It's also super easy to wipe clean as it's some sort of durable, perhaps reinforced layers of plastic. Even though the puppy figured it out, it still seems to excite her, and considering it keeps both dogs entertained and active mentally, I would absolutely recommend this to any dog owner!

Trixie Flip Board Dog Enrichment Toy – Great Starter Puzzle, Best for Beginner Dogs
Color: Flip Board, Size: Level 2
I’ve been using this with a high-energy, working-breed dog, and it’s a solid beginner-level enrichment toy—especially for dogs new to puzzle feeders. What works well: • The design is simple and intuitive. My dog learned the flipping lids and sliding compartments quickly without frustration. • It’s great for short mental stimulation sessions or slowing down treat time. • The non-slip base helps keep it in place on hard floors. Things to consider: • This is a Level 1 puzzle, so once your dog understands it, they can solve it quickly. • The compartments are on the smaller side, so it works better with small treats than full meals. • Best used with supervision if your dog tends to paw or chew at toys. Best use case: Ideal for puppies, beginner dogs, or as part of a rotation of enrichment toys. More advanced dogs will likely need something more challenging to stay engaged. Bottom line: A well-designed starter puzzle that’s easy for dogs to learn and use. Not the most challenging option long-term, but a good addition to an enrichment routine.
