Black Truffle presents the eighth full-length release from the trio of Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, and Oren Ambarchi. Over the course of four LP sides, the October 2014 concert documented here ranges from rock power trio dynamics to maelstroms of analog electronics. Once again, the three demonstrate their commitment to pushing into new areas of instrumental exploration and group interaction. Where their previous releases featured extended vocal workouts from Haino, his vocalizations here are restricted to the occasional impassioned cry, putting the focus squarely on instrumental interplay. More than ever before, this feels like the work of three equals, with O'Rourke or Ambarchi taking the lead role as often as Haino does. The four pieces presented here each focus on extended development. The first side is propelled by Ambarchi's busy, Jack DeJohnette-esque cymbal and tom work, which provides a skittering yet insistent pulse over which Haino and O'Rourke's FX-saturated strings rise and fall, momentarily converging for passages of near stasis before wandering through areas of gently sour discord; O'Rourke's use of a six-string bass here boosts the harmonic density of the music and often makes his contribution difficult to distinguish from Haino's guitar. On the second side, O'Rourke uses his pedals to make his bass near unrecognizable, generating a squelching, harmonically unstable riff that Ambarchi accompanies with a semi-martial snare pattern. Haino moves between frenetic octave-doubled fuzz riffing and streams of feedback. The third side is the most abstract; Continuing Haino's explorations of new instruments, the side opens with a long passage of toy piano. Alongside occasional vocal interjections from Haino (singing in English), Ambarchi creates delicate textures on cymbals and metallic percussion while O'Rourke, for the first time in this group, performs on the EMS Synthi. With Haino joining in with his own electronics, the side eventually builds to a chaotic climax. Beginning with a sequence of "fourth world" drums and flute, the final side unfolds an epic build-up over a hypnotic foundation of pounding toms. Moving from flute to vocals to electronics, Haino eventually picks up the guitar in the second half of the piece, igniting a spectral blur over driving rhythms from bass and drums that eventually builds to a frenzied climax. Not for aggressive chewers
Size: 36 Inch
My GSD ate half of it within 20min before I caught her.
I don’t think it was meant for aggressive chewers so I can’t fault the product for that.
My dogs did have a few hours of fun with it playing tug and it held up well.

Emotional Support Lizard
Size: 15 Inch
This was my Goldendoodle puppy's first toy, and a year later, it's still his favorite. It was light enough for him to play with it at 9 pounds, but big enough that he still loves it at 40 pounds. He carries it around, slaps his brother with it, throws it and chases it, sleeps with it, etc. He enjoys his stuffies also, but he returns to this one repeatedly through the day, so I know he loves it. It's a bit discolored, but still fully intact. If you have a dog with a soft mouth who isn't prone to chewing, this toy is perfect. I've purchased extras to keep in the emergency supplies in both the house and the car.

Not for puppies or dogs who enjoy chewing toys.
Size: 25 Inch
NOT FOR PUPPIES OR CHEWERS! If you have a dog that is teething or enjoys chewing on toys for soothing this is not the toy to buy. My 4 month old ate the sneak head off and the inside plastic ball squeaker was exposed and fell out and my puppy swallowed it. I tried to take it away from him but it was too late .. he already swallowed it. This caused serious vomiting days later in my pup. I’m not likely to leave negative reviews unless I truly have a horrific experience and this toy provided just that. 0 stars.

Good for kittens & cats too!
Size: 15 Inch
Bought this for our new kitten, 5 months old, and didn't know if it was a good purchase or not. He loves it! He can chew on it, drag it around the house, interact with us too. And he hasn't lost or destroyed it. The only disappointment is the head squeaker stop working. The placard stated it would work even if bit. Not a big deal, though; kitten doesn't like the squeak. LOL
